Motivation and ambition
In 2010, the first Stadstriathlon Weert was organized by the Foundation Total Sports. The reason for this was that one or more athletes of Weert could qualify themselves for the Olympic Games of 2012 on this component. One of those athletes was Maaike Caelers. She eventually qualified herself for the Olympic Games of 2012 in London. This was her first qualification.
The first competition in 2010 in Weert was a great success. The organizations therefore decided to continue organizing the event. Starting from 2011 the competition expanded with National Championships Youth and Juniors and in 2012 the organization added Parent Child Contests and Teamrelay.
Stadstriathlon Weert has become a well-known phenomenon in Weert. Both the organization and the city Weert want to take the competition to the next level. That’s why in 2013 the First Division competition Triathlon is organized alongside the other existing components (National Championship Youth and Juniors, OD, Sprint, Teamrelay and Parent Child).
The organization also has the ambition to be a part of the Eredivisie competition triathlon in 2014 and in cooperation with the municipality of Weert to win the Dutch Championship Olympic Distance.
Annually organizing a national (or international) triathlon competition in Weert
To be a part of the Eredivisie from 2014
A highlight could be to win the National Championship OD (National Championship) in 2014 together with the celebration of 600 years Weert.
For our competitions we want to welcome as much triathletes as possible. Athletes who want to see what triathlon sport is all about are also welcome to the competition. Children who are older than 8 years can participate with their parents. If the child is at a beginner level, he/she can join the teamrelay or the sprint competition. The contest is for everybody! We will also promote the competition in local and regional media in order to get as much supporters as we can.
